Travel Insurance and cancelled sports event

Options
If I travelled to the US for a major sports event (this was the main purpose of the trip) but the event was cancelled due to bad whether would I have a claim using my normal travel insurance I took out prior to the trip?
The holiday itself was not cancelled or cut short just the event which was the main purpose of travel. Thanks in advance

What are you wanting to claim for ? Presumably if the event is cancelled you will receive a refund for the tickets from the event organiser?
If you still received the rest of the holiday flights / accommodation that you paid for then no entitlement to a refund .

Unlikely with a normal policy, you may be able to get a specialist policy which covers it, maybe check with fan clubs etc

OP says the holiday wasn't cut short, so I'm presuming it still went ahead and just the event didn't happen.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.
  • @elsien - yes the holiday still went ahead and yes it was just the event that was cancelled but the event was the whole point of the holiday so I’d like to know if I would have a valid claim if I submitted a claim using my travel insurance (it was just a normal travel insurance policy) thanks

  • What cost or financial loss are you actually hoping to make a claim for?

Your policy documents will explain exactly what you can and can't claim for, but I'd agree with previous posters that it seems something of a long shot, although none of us know who you're insured with....

What exactly would you be claiming for?

I get the impression they are looking for the whole cost of the holiday back on the basis that bad weather caused the event to be cancelled. Unless they have a very specialist and very expensive policy, there are no real prospects at all
