RCD trips when on holiday

It's probably clearer if you avoid the word 'fuse' and instead use MCB and RCD (and RCBO)....HoolyNI said:I have a main consumer board under the stairs with separate fuses for different circuits throughout the house, including a fuse for the garage. There is also a separate fuse board out in the garage although it doesn't have a trip fitted. Could fitting a trip to that maybe solve the problem?
It's almost as if the less electric being used the more likely a trip is to occur, although a few nightlights being on when we are here is the only change in usage compared to when we are away...
...although not if either consumer unit is fitted with fuses.

The freezer and fridge were jacking on in your absence?

Thanks all for your advice. Going away for a couple of nights early July so will know more then, am running my freezers down to try and just keep stuff that is safe to re-freeze. Everything is off when we go away bar a Freeview recorder, two freezers and the fridge which is integrated so has to stay where it is...both chest freezers are in the garage on separate sockets so am guessing that is where my issue is, will put everything into the bigger of the two and see how we go from there...0

Have you got some method of seeing when the RCD trips? That may provide useful information. Maybe something like a plug-in 7 day mechanical timer.0

Last time it happened early evening going by the failed recordings. Would say switching off the small freezer in the garage will sort it. Maybe once in a blue moon they both click "on" at the same time on the garage circuit and that's enough to throw the trip, although it's tripping the "domestic plug" circuit in the house too...Chickereeeee said:Have you got some method of seeing when the RCD trips? Just a quick update. No trips on this occasion. I emptied the smaller freezer and switched it off and things seemed to run smoothly enough.1
