Cutting stainless steel

Hi

Got a new cooker hood and it is far too tall. Needs to be cut down and don't quite know how to do it. It is stainless steel and I've been told, is quite difficult to cut.
Any ideas??

Stainless Steel is harder than ordinary steel, it has a proportion of chrome in it, so you need to use a finer toothed saw blade to cut it, something with 22/24 teeth per inch.
Without seeing the hood it would be difficult to suggest anything else.

There are different types of S/S the type used in the manufacture of your hood is of the softer type and can be cut easily. Using tinsnips can leave a marked edge so cutting with a saw (fine grade) is the best method.

As already said a saw will cut it. You can get special blades for stainless that fit in a jigsaw, these work well. I once used a nibbler and that made it very easy, but it is difficult to cut the bends with a nibbler.

Hitch

Grinder (4.5" or 5"), with an ultrathin disc is by far the easiest way to do this. If you can beg or borrow one for an hour.

Lost count of the number of them ive cut for people.
