Volvo Warranty

Hi everyone, I need some help/advice regarding how warranty works on a vehicle.

When I bought my car in Feb 2020 it was only 1 yr old, so it still had the manufacturers warranty on it which expired at the end of April this year. A few months later I had a problem with the panoramic roof in that it wouldn't close one day. I contacted Volvo On Call (which is a service that came with the car), they came to my house, plugged a machine into the car, pressed a few buttons and it seemed to solve the issue. A short while after this it started playing up again when I was trying to close the roof using my key fob, sometimes it would close and sometimes it wouldn't. Not a big deal I thought, I can always use the button inside. A while after this, it started making a very loud vibrating/rumbling noise when it was closing, it didn't do it when opening, just when it was closing. So I contacted the dealership where I bought the car from and booked it in to be looked at. At the same time I told them about a fault with one of my rear wheels, all the lacquer had started to peel off and looked a mess. When I collected it later that day, I was told that they would need to get the car back in because all the head lining had to come down to investigate it further, so they'd need the car approx 2 days. I was asked when I wanted to bring it but because I needed a courtesy car and they didn't have any available and didn't know when they would, they said all they could do would be to contact me when they did and then get me booked in (this never happened). I did ring numerous times but was re-directed to a customer service number because they were busy. Regarding the rear wheel, they said they would need to speak to Customer Services & Warranty as the wheel had been repaired before. I pointed out that the wheel had not been done whilst in my ownership and they said they knew that, it was done when the previous owner had the car, which I believe to have been either the Finance Manager or Parts Manager (I was told this when buying the car). Fast forward to present day, and now the panoramic roof will not open at all. Again I have rung the dealership and the car is booked in for this coming Thurs. My concern now is, what rights do I have if they refuse to cover the work (what ever that is) under warranty now that the warranty has run out? Ive always been led to believe that any problems you have with a car thats still in warranty, as long as they are reported before the warranty expires, they are still covered....is that correct? Also, I am still waiting to hear about the rear wheel, that has been over 2 months now. They have asked for photos of the wheel, which I have sent them but still not heard anything.  Any help/advice about this, I would be very grateful.

I was trying to give as much details as possible so people would understand the full story and advise accordingly. I feel your comment is unnecessary and unhelpful.
  • Information is fine, but PLEASE can we have paragraphs and not a wall of text, thanks.

I doubt if they'll refurbish a wheel free of charge.

When did the roof issue first occur (Month/Year) ?

When did the warranty expire (Month/Year) ?

    Your post is confusing.
  • The OP reads as though all of this has happened since the warranty expired in April 22. If that’s the case, then there is no warranty and if you get anything, it’ll be goodwill only.

If it was reported before the warranty expired and it was down to the dealer that it couldn't be booked in any earlier then this will be on the dealer to get it resolved.

The OP says it was, so there is no reason why it shouldn't.

There is a lot of detail in the OP.
There is also a lot of detail not in the OP.

The OP is also difficult to read as there is one mass of text, with inadequate consideration to aid clear understanding.  As an example, I shall try to set the beginning of the post into a time-line:
When I bought my car in Feb 2020 it was only 1 yr old, so it still had the manufacturers warranty on it which expired at the end of April this year. A few months later I had a problem with the panoramic roof...
    • Feb 2019 - new car registered to first keeper
    • Feb 2020 - OP purchased the car at 1 yo & ??? miles
    • April 2022 - manufacturer's warranty expired
    • A few months later - fault developed with roof.
Now, we see that the OP has suggested by the exact reading of what has been written that the fault with the roof did not develop until  some time after April 2022 (this year).

What I think the OP wants to say is that the fault with the roof developed "a few months" after the car was purchased in February 2020.
How long is "a few months"?
How many miles were covered in that time?  Mileage may well be irrelevant for the nature of the fault but does allow the complete picture to be understood.

Then we arrive at queries that may be relevant if seeking a "goodwill" resolution from Volvo:
Was the car purchased from a franchised Volvo Dealer?
Was the OP the second owner (registered keeper) or had the car been through a succession of owners in that first year?

I hope the OP does not feel that my comment is unnecessary or unhelpful, as I certainly do not intend to be so.

No, the 1st problem with the roof was only a few months after I bought it in 2020, then again in March 2022. Warranty expired in April 2022.

The 1st fault developed with the roof in June/July of 2020, I bought the car in Feb 2020. The 2nd fault developed in March 2022, (noisey when closing) 3rd fault (now not opening) developed last week. Warranty expired in April 2022.  The car was purchased from a franchised Volvo Dealer. I was the 2nd owner.
