I have recently had the same problem connecting a GivEnergy dongle to the TP-Link Deco P9 mesh network. I believe the issue relates to the chipset used in the dongle not fully support the 802.11s standard. The work around which works for me is to disable "Fast Roaming" within the Deco settings. This is done from the Deco control app, under Router Settings, then Advanced. I hope this works for you.
I thought I had posted my solution earlier but it seems now. I must have just posted in the GE forum but after some testing, I came to the same solution following these steps.
    1. Disable Fast Roaming.
    2. Connect to dongle access page.
    3. Connect to mesh WiFi.
    4. Restart the dongle and confirm connection.
    5. When connected, find the dongle in the Deco app device list.
    6. Turn off the mesh function.
    7. Turn on Fast Roaming.
Not a 100% solution, more of a workaround but it works for now and the inverter has connected and reconnected a few times when tested during the day so hopefully GE get around to fixing it. I did post a bug report on this.
  • I can confirm my GivEnergy dongle refused to connect to my Deco wifi until I turned off Fast Roaming. Now it's turned off it works fine.
  • That's great to hear. The odd thing is that I have had no dongle connection issues since I first connected with the method mentioned. Fast roaming was turned back on after it connected and I have never turned it off since. However there have been times when the dongle has lost connection for explicable reasons such as a power cut or rebooting the mesh and it's connected fine since. So I have no idea what prevents that initial connection.

One thing I have done on the mesh connection with the dongle is to turn off the mesh feature so effectively it won't switch between nodes so perhaps that's the reason. 🤷‍♂️
