'Hiding' a drive from Linux..?

I take on board your points and I can't actually fault them. I see where you're coming from and you're not actually wrong.Although while not wrong ... are you 'right' if you get me? Or is your solution just 'A' solution - one of various, that is right, but so is solution 2, solution 3 etc.You put it to me that you come across users who want 'their' solution and nothing else is good enough, right? Because it is their own idea I guess. Well in this case we have your solution and could it (notice I'm asking & saying could it rather than telling you & saying it is) be that no other solution is good enough in your eyes as they're not what you'd opt for .... even if they do still meet the criteria?I totally get the encryption method and I accept 99% of it. From a security standing I actually accept 100%.But let me ask you this then - as encryption only protects the drive from being accessed but doesn't hide the drive, what about in the scenario where you're then asked:hey what's that drive that's suddenly appeared that wasn't there before?I want to access it.Why can't I access it?Whereas if it was just hidden, it wouldn't be visible for those questions to be asked.Just throwing a different angle on it that's all.Oh and if you deal with people like me for your day job then I feel sorry for you and wonder how you've not gone loopy yet
For the record, I'll be going the encryption route (only saying this as some people seem to think if you continue to post then it means you're still asking and haven't accepted a solution yet & they get all funny about it).Just need to start transferring files off my C drive ready to then get Windows 10 up & running first. Then maybe in 15 years I'll make the switch to Windows 11 when Windows 14 comes out

Yes, so that does help in terms of the "why?"JustAnotherSaver said:But let me ask you this then - as encryption only protects the drive from being accessed but doesn't hide the drive, what about in the scenario where you're then asked:hey what's that drive that's suddenly appeared that wasn't there before?I want to access it.Why can't I access it?Whereas if it was just hidden, it wouldn't be visible for those questions to be asked.Just throwing a different angle on it that's all.
Choice of answers could be:- Truth: I encrypt my Windows drives as it is best practice security wise. Unfortunately Linux cannot access Windows Bitlocker drives.***
- They contain personal data that I don't want to be viewed.
- They contain precious data that I don't want to be accidentally deleted so I have protected them.
- I don't know much about IT so I can't help you with that.
- [only if user is an adult] They contain my XXX videos collections and I don't want you to see them.
- Mind your own business.
*** There is software that enables Linux to access Bitlocker drives but go to answer 4 on that one if asked.0 - Truth: I encrypt my Windows drives as it is best practice security wise. Unfortunately Linux cannot access Windows Bitlocker drives.***

Just go straight to Windows 11 is my serious advice if your PC is capable.JustAnotherSaver said:Just need to start transferring files off my C drive ready to then get Windows 10 up & running first. Then maybe in 15 years I'll make the switch to Windows 11 when Windows 14 comes out

Haven't looked to see if it's capable or not tbh. I built it in 2010 so it's pretty darn old now.I want to build another. Not just for handling my media library & compressing movies for Plex but just in general. Can't bring myself to spend the cash though. This build cost me about £1500-£2000 back in 2010. I'd probably be looking at spending the same again, not too sure. One day.Searched that on YouTube. Not too sure what the guy is saying but it SOUNDS like he's talking about what I'm asking.Haven't got Linux up and running yet, plus I'd be using Mint so don't know if that makes a difference.

While I'll probably still go with Windows 10 on this machine, what do you reckon about Windows 11 on my current system?I think all bar the CPU, GPU & PSU have been changed over the years.AMD Phenom II X6 1055T Processor 2.80GHzAsus M4A88TD-V EVO/USB3 880G Socket AM3 8 Channel Audio ATX Motherboard16GB Corsair RAMGigabyte GTX 460 OC 1GB GDDR5 OC Edition Dual DVI HDMI PCI-E Graphics Cardbe quiet! I believe I need to have Windows 10 installed but once I've done that I don't know if I can use the same licence (again) or whether I would need to buy a new licence - and aside from that, I don't know if I have to upgrade within Windows 10 or whether I can clean install Windows 11.As said recently, I'd like to build a new one which I'd be more inclined to have Win11 on if i did do that.1

TPM 2.0 is likely to be the block on a computer from ~2010.[Deleted User] said:
