How to stream through a separates system

Options
Hello all

I have a separates hifi system which I run my tv and cd player through. It's 20+ years old.

I like Spotify, which I usually play through a Bluetooth speaker.

Is there a way to play Spotify through my amp into my big speakers? Or do i need a new amp?

Thanks

Does your bluetooth speaker have an audio out socket?
Does you hifi have a spare audio input?

If they do then you can connect the two and keep using spotify as you currently do

That is very helpful thanks. I'll give it a go when I get a new cable
  • If you do have spare audio input then a Chromecast Audio puck would do the job, but I now see that Google discontinued them a couple of years ago. Still use mine for exactly the thing you describe.

They are stupid money on eBay, has anyone produced a lookalike replacement?

Chromecast Audio is the easiest, as you can cast/push directly from the Spotify app.

Echo dot works too, but a bit more clunky, as playback seems to need to be started from Alexa.

Has an Audio Out jack. You'll just need a 3.5mm plug to L/R phono/RCA lead/cable.

Alternatively, just connect your phone via the headphone jack to the appropriate phono input at the back of your amp.

Or attach a Bluetooth receiver to the amplifier and connect your phone via Bluetooth: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01J5DYWTW or https://www.amazon.co.uk/UGREEN-Bluetooth-Transmitter-Receiver-Headphones/dp/B099K591CG

If you are streaming high quality audio, then look for aptX. Example: https://www.ugreen.com/products/2-in-1-aptx-bluetooth-5-0-transmitter

Since you are already utilising Bluetooth, I guess a Bluetooth Receiver will suffice. Android Box just frees your phone for other things and smartens up your TV.

I did previously have an iPhone/iPod dock which plugged into one of the inputs of my Hi-Fi amp.
(Of course, Apple changed the connector, so that's now obsolete.)

Just noticed the Amazon Echo Flex is £9.99 today. Connect via 3.5mm to phono/RCA cable.

Got to be worth a punt!

And if are happy to talk to it, or use the Alexa app, Echo/Alexa can be easy to use. Just a bit different to using the Spotify app directly.
