Initial savings v means 2 owner history
How much does a second owner devalue a car when it comes to selling? In the market for a new car and a very trusted family friend could get it for me around 10% cheaper but would have to be registered to them initially. Just wondering if the 2nd owner on docs would negate the initial saving when it comes time to change.

Any 'devaluation' would be minimal: certainly not 10%.

Don’t worry about it. Even if it was 10% car is £30000 now you save 10% so £3000 saved. In 4 years it’s worth £15000 with 1 owner 10% less with 2 so you sell for £13500, you are still £1500 better off.3

In this current market, if you are able to actually get delivery of a brand new car you are doing very well.Tiki30 said:How much does a second owner devalue a car when it comes to selling? The impact of being second owner will be far less than the 10% discount that is indicated.
Is this an employee of the manufacturer / Dealer or other motor industry linked discount? If so, there may be a minimum time they need to be the owner (RK) before the transfer to you can happen. This may mean extra questions on insurance as you will need to answer questions about ownership and registered keeper truthfully. Should not be an insurmountable issue though.
If this is a more generic employee benefits scheme discount, the rules may be more relaxed for swift transfer of the owner (RK). You still need to check the scheme rules though.
How does the 10% discount obtainable via this route compare with general incentives available and best prices via brokers etc?

Number of owners has little impact to resale value, unless the car is still relatively new with a high number. For instance, a 5 year old car with 5 previous owners that indicates potential problems have arisen. If you believe you can, you will. If you believe you can't, you won't.

Thanks for replies.
It's a cancelled order which is why it's available now. No min RK period. Insurance will be a bit more until RK transferred.
