I don't like to mention the upcoming seasonal festivities tooooo early but wanted to remind people that that time is drawing nigh! And so it's a good time to think about giving rather than receiving.

I'll put together some suggestions on what to buy and post a reminder of the previous reverse advent calendar that many food banks run during November. I add a word of caution to check best before dates please! It's not very helpful or even MSE to be giving the food banks items that "expire" before their intended distribution dates. Do look for things that go well into 2027! Of course that might rule out some of the standard things like mince tarts, many of which have BBDs just 3 or 4 weeks away.

And as an alternative don't forget to look for your local organisations that might need toys or other presents to distribute. Dunelm has a "gift tag" system where you provide something specific for a specific (anonymouse) child or young person. Many radio stations and local charities have similar things. So if you don't want to buy festive food products please, if you are able, consider a toy or other suitable gift.

(thanks for @Happy_Kitties for bringing the Dunelm scheme to my attention!! I do need to go shopping there so might pick up a gift tag!!!)

And if you don't want to wait food banks are happy to receive all sorts of lovely food items - you can check your local ones' needs and wants online or simply consider what you want to have this time of year. Hearty soups, hotdogs for Bonfire night, extras needed for those missing out their lunches as it's school break….whatever!
