No, we are just two adults in a 4 bed detached.

If there's only 2 of you and you want to save on fuel costs then it's time to look at how and when you heat the house. There's some big savings to be made there.

I'm also a "2 people in 4 bed detached" household and our gas is around 9000kWh a year. Ours is a modern house so quite well insulated and we're around most of the day.

We heat water for 40 mins a day, does 2 showers, hubby's shave and some left. We stick it on later for 15 mins if either of us wants a bath. We do have a dishwasher though.

Central heating in winter, we set room thermostat to 18C, heating on 6.30am til 9.30pm. TRVs on radiators, set to 1 in unused rooms, 2 in our bedroom,3 in bathroom and kitchen, full heat in living room only. Curtains get closed at dusk and we keep doors closed to zone the heat. I do snuggle up under a blanket in the evenings as I'm nesh.

It may be that you live in an older property so it's hard to retain heat but hopefully some of the above might help you see where you might save a bit.

OP, whatever you do regarding tariffs, you can make an immediate saving of £147 just by switching to DD...

    Hi there. Regarding your point:

The only benefit is if you don't like it come October 1st BG will allow you to switch to another of their tariffs without exit fees. Not that I personally believe the rises aren't real but that gives some people some comfort.

Could you help by pointing me toward the part of their T&C's that states this? I can only find the part which mentions 14-day cooling-off period.

I also have another question I hope someone might be able to help with. Our Peoples Tariff variable ends on June 30th, and we're being offered switch to same/similar fixed tariffs as others. If I choose to stick with the variable tariff for now, will BG still allow me to switch to a fixed tariff between July and October, on the assumption they don't withdraw it in the meantime?

    Thanks
