And those that work, rent, but get no benefits?
    That’s the unfair part

the government wanted to push up rents by adding housing benefits to prop up the markets

if if they got rid of housing benefits then rents would have to fall to what people could pay out of their own pockets

There aren’t too many of those around these days you don’t have to be poor to be on universal credit the bars pretty high.

    That's just rubbish.
As a single person with no dependants on minimum wage I'm not entitled to any benefits and I personally know dozens of people in the same situation.

Why on earth would the state be handing out benefits to an able bodied person with no dependents ?

They don't. That was my exact point to counter the claim you made in your post....

Lucky you, clearly you live in an area with reasonable rents. Most places you can't rent anything on minimum wage.

    It's 1 room in a run-down HMO with a shared bathroom because that's all I can afford.
    Lucky me...

Ok ill rephrase,  the bar for claiming UC is relatively low but higher than a single able bodied man (I pressume) who earns the absolute legal minimum that can be paid to a person as was ever the case since the beginning of time.

Lady who called in to Radio 4 said she bought get council home in 1990 for £8,000.

Sold it there years later for over £100k.
     3 years later, or 30?
3 is what she said, the minimum time before she was allowed to sell.

It was a great get-rich-quick scheme for some people, but screwed a lot more.
How much did her new property cost?
