Changing jobs and UC

Hi

I will start a new job on the 5/7.

My UC payment is on every 22nd of the month.

I remember a job coach telling me I should only tell about any changes after I get my UC payment because once I report the pay will stop and start again only when all the calculations are done.

So should I notify UC on 22/6 or 22/7?

The WC is talking nonsense. You should report the employment when it starts (not before). Your UC continues. When you receive your first earnings payment your employer will tell HMRC and HMRC will tell UC. The earnings are taken into account in the UC monthly period they are received in and will reduce the UC payable. This should all be done automatically.

Your UC assessment period is 16th to 15th of each month. Your UC payment on 22nd July is therefore unlikely to be affected by any earnings assuming that you are not paid anything until near the end of the month.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.

I think what the WC may have been getting at is that if you report the new job start on 5/7/2022, and that moves you into light touch/working enough, and then the assessment period ends 10 days later on 15/7/2022 and you've not yet paid, you will move back into all work related requirements and they will start booking you appointments again (a pain). If you report the change after 15/7/2022 you will stay in light touch/working  enough for a full month before earnings are assessed again, by which time hopefully you've been paid.
But that doesn't detract from what @calcotti has said which of course is correct.

    This is correct.

Any month you don't show a wage you move back into all work related requirements and get a work review appt.
