@SINDYGIRL, just on the point of managing everything after one has 'relocated elsewhere'. I also do not want those who will be going through a tough time to have to experience an even more frustrating time resolving the administrative things. to resolve this (for my own piece of mind), I have a simple document "Emergency - Go Here First", which gives a very brief description of where things might be, e.g. main PC, XXX folder, filing cabinet (2nd draw), etc, etc. There is a second document "Emergency - Things You Need To Know", which lists virtually everything (a bit of a pain to draw together but relatively easy to update once a year now); it contains information for:SINDYGIRL said:...is it easier for my children to deal with ISA's and savings when I've died if I have them in accounts with passbooks so amounts are obvious as opposed to them having to deal with online accounts passcodes pin numbers etc...am I just being silly as rates seem better with online accounts...Introduction 4

There is a 3rd document (spreadsheet) with all the actual account details, user IDs, passwords. Obviously, this is held in a secure fashion (encrypted on USB sticks (offsite as well).
I'm not suggesting you need to go to follow the obsessive action I have taken but you may want to pick choose what is important to you and how you may want to do something similar to make it a little easier for those you care about after the fact.

I have done something similar but now seems somewhat inadequate compared to the above !3

It started off quite simple and light weight, but is something I update annually, and I've just added to it as things that would be useful to know have cropped up over the years. It is not meant to be something which is constantly updated, but a good starting reference point at a bad time. My brother also holds a copy of everything (including a copy of the USB drive) in one of those security plastic envelopes. Me obsessive, never.Albermarle said:I have done something similar but now seems somewhat inadequate compared to the above !Personal Responsibility - Sad but True

We have a folder with a full list of our providers, banks etc and it will have copies of our Wills, they need updating, but it does say with whom they were drawn up. We called it The Book of Doom but have now changed it to The Book of Knowledge. I update it each year as we change insurance providers. Our sons know where it is.
Have we gone a bit off-topic here?1 -
