Self-employed -- impact on registered address ?

I was thinking that also. Doesn't seem to make sense and may complicate matters for the OP's parents.MattMattMattUK said:
Do you plan on trading under English or Scottish law?coffeehound said:Hello,
I'm going self-employed but would like to use my elderly parents' address as the formal location. I won't be resident and no business would take place there.
Are there any consequences to doing this? I don't know what, but maybe affecting their Council Tax or something?
Also they live in Scotland while I am in England -- any snafu potential there?
Thanks for any advice
What is your actual reason for doing this, it does not seem to make any sense, especially as you are a sole trader. Please note - taken from the Forum Rules and amended for my own personal use (with thanks) : It is up to you to investigate, check, double-check and check yet again before you make any decisions or take any action based on any information you glean from any of my posts. It's really an interim measure of convenience as I will be technically of no fixed abode for some months. The work is providing a service to a company within their operating framework, so customer facing and trust should not be at issue. @MattMattMattUK would there be any practical differences there between Scotland/England law? I guess with a Scottish address I would come under their laws.0 -
There can be substantial differences in some areas, in others almost nothing. You need to define which under your terms and conditions. If you have not yet I would find yourself an accountant who can help with this, there may also be government/charity assistance in your area for new startups, I would urge you to seek this out as you need to make sure you are fully compliant with all requirements for operating a business, accounts, insurance, terms and conditions etc.coffeehound said:
