Demand from Bulb

I’ve received a payment demand from Bulb for energy costs even though I switched from their supply in June 2020. My final bill at the time was for a refund of my credit of £400 plus.
How is it possible to receive a payment demand 2 years on? Has anyone else received similar? I’m being threatened with debt collection agency now!

Ask them for a breakdown of the bill, with meter readings and your credits showing.
No, not met this before from Bulb but wouldn't be surprised if we hear more of it.1 -
Bulb tried this with me aswell recently. I switched away from them November 2020 in credit and I know I was in credit as I take monthly readings. I got in touch with them over live chat to complain and a couple of days later I checked again and they had recalculated it back to how it was.
I bet plenty of people would have paid up though as it was only £40 and they were threatening debt collectors. Seems to me that they thought they might be able to improve their cash flow by trying to get previous customers to cough up a few quid each!2 -
If you have smart meters then they wouldn't have the problem as SMETS 2 and many SMETS 1 meter can be read by the supplier. If you gave them regular readings and the final bill was paid then if your readings match with what your opening readings are with the gaining supplier then the only problem could be that if it's not smart meters and the readings aren't what you gave Bulb i.e faulty meters.Someone please tell me what money is0

Have they given you any details of twhy they think you owe this money - meter readings, unpaid bills, that sort of thing? If not, send them a "prove it" letter. This is the link to the "Prove It" letter template and advice on what (and what not) to say:

Thanks for the comments. I’ve recovered their original email and final bill from June 2020 which is the usual regret your leaving etc and confirms I was £417 in credit which they were going to refund within the next few weeks. I’m checking again whether I ever received this!0
