  • Sorry, lot of conflicting comments now so i'll draw a line under it, I never said I charged the car at home and you don't need to lease a car from a leasing Company, most of the major brands and dealerships do lease hire now.

Again, thanks for the comments, not sure it got me anywhere as I wanted some advice and not personal opinions.

I think you've been given some good advice, but it helps if you include all the information. If you can't charge at home then it's a totally different picture and a short range EV is probably really challenging.

Hopefully you can still enjoy driving it and cope with the inconvenience of frequent charging. It's definitely worth having a conversation with whoever you've leased from to see if you can a) buy the car outright (and then sell it on) or b) terminate early without penalty. They may or may not have some flexibility in the current market. However, you may struggle to find an immediate replacement.

No, I only drive around 30-35 miles per day so I assumed I would get 4 days of driving out of the car but as I said, I am now charging every second day which is not what I expected. I get that the range changes based on different circumstances but not by up to 35 miles which is quite extreme I feel. I love the car, it is a great drive with great spec but just frustrating that I am nowhere near getting the full charge that was advertised at the time. Guess I will need to just live with it but thanks for everyone's advice and thoughts.
If that is all you are doing per day the the car’s range is perfectly suitable for your use. If you are charging at home then I don’t really see what the problem is, if you are using public charges then you will have a bit more inconvenience, but this is really down to your poor research before taking out the lease.

If you're not charging the car at home, then charging 2-3 times a week is definitely going to be a nuisance.

I'd definitely see with the whoever the lease is with about options, because there may be a way out of it.

I bought a EV Mazda last July and was told the car had a range of 124 miles on a full charge. I was never told this would deplete throughout the seasons. I had to charge every 2nd day in Winter as I was lucky to get 90 miles and even though the Temperature is rising, I am still only getting 110 miles out of a full charge. Can anyone give me advice on whether I can get out of my 4 year lease as this is costing me a lot more money and inconvenience on what I signed up for, definitely not sold as promised.
Hiya, if you check the website EV-Database, you'll find the results they get seem to match yours, so at least you know it's not a fault with the vehicle.

Range varies from 75 miles (cold weather Highway speeds (cold weather is -10C)) to 155 miles (mild weather city driving).

Great you're enjoying the car. TBF it has relatively low range for a large BEV, and isn't that efficient, but also not too bad.

Obviously an ICE vehicle gets poorer fuel economy in cold weather, wet roads and higher speeds too.

I'd suggest you're noticing it more because of the smaller range, which necessitates more charging periods than a bigger battery BEV for any given distance, even if the total charging times are similar. Our first BEV was a 24kWh Leaf with about 70 miles of gentle driving range, less than 60 in the winter unless you drove slower and didn't use the heater (just the heated seats and steering wheel). So we tended to have to charge it every day, to give us 60(ish) miles of range for the next day. But if you had, just as an example a 240 mile range vehicle, then you could drive multiple days and 180+ miles, before needing to recharge, on the same basis.

So smaller range BEV's need more frequent charging for any given usage.
Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

For general PV advice please see the PV FAQ thread on the Green & Ethical Board.
  • You have about as much chance as someone who finds that the advertised MPG figures are unrealistic has of getting out of it - none.

Given that car prices are silly now, have you tried asking them what it would cost to buy out and looking to sell it?

    Do you have home charging?

    Electric mini range 145 miles
Whatcar road testing, realistically 100 miles

Just the same with any maunfacturer`s fantasy petrol consumption numbers.
