Energy - increasing Gas & Elec
Look for some advice!
I'm a first-time buyer and looking to complete my house purchase at the end of June and since I've been living with parents, I don't have an account with any energy providers and have little know-how of how to tackle and approach it.
The current owner of the property is with Octopus energy.
What should I do? Please help!

Not a bad guide, most suppliers have them
Staying with Octopus depends on a number of variables but generally their fix rates are not competitive. If you have an electric vehicle Octopus could be a very good fit.0 -
On the plus side for Octopus, generally good customer service, monthly billing and if smart meters are fitted up to date graphs and info on what you're using.Barnsley, South Yorkshire
Solar PV 5.25kWp SW facing (14 x 375) installed Mar 22
Lux 3.6kw hybrid inverter and 9.6kw Pylontech batteries
Daikin 8kW ASHP installed Jan 25

When you move into your new home you need to open a new account with the current supplier (Octopus) before you can do anything else.
Take a meter reading (photo) and call them to open the account. Don't let them put you on a fixed tariff, you are automatically a customer on the deemed tariff which is identical to the SVT.
After 21 days you are able to change the supplier. Problem here will be that currently only EDF and Octopus are taking on new customers on a SVT, so that leaves only EDF to change to.
Most suppliers do "good" (or make it not so bad) fixed tariffs mainly for existing customers, so you also will not be able to find a good fix with one of the other suppliers.0
