Facebook account hacked - can it be rescued?

Someone's hacked into my Facebook account and now it can't be accessed.
When I try to change the password, it wants to send an email to the hacker's email address, not the main email address.
It seems that my email address is still associated with my account, but the hacker has changed the email of the account to theirs.
So the account comes up when I search using my email address, but then their email address is used to change password.
The hackers are sending out junk mail to friends.
Is there any way to save the account or close it down?
Went to Facebook to try to communicate with them or recover my account, but nothing worked, just went round and round. Cannot find any way to fix this
Does anyone know if there's a way to do this?
Can I get help from Facebook?
Thanks

For the moment I would worry less about Facebook and more about any other accounts you have. You need to change the passwords of any accounts that share the same email, as well as the password on the email account itself. Also, do you use Facebook login/sign in for any other sites? If you do then you need to change your details on those sites immediately. Also enable two factor authentication on everything you can.t8769 said:Someone's hacked into my Facebook account and now it can't be accessed.

You can try the methods below, but the horse may have already bolted. If you do recover the account then make sure you enable 2FA.

I hope you are lucky and can regain access to your account. A year ago, my store's Instagram account with a couple of thousand subscribers was hacked, and I never managed to regain access to it...

When they hacked into the account and changed/added the email address, Facebook will have sent an email to the original registered address, with a link that lets you undo the change. This happened to a family member of mine recently. The only way I got back into the account was by finding that email.0
