Just wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation to myself - my house sale (I inherited from my late mother) is due for completion on 16/6. My next council tax payment is due on 15/6.
Will I have to pay this?

Yes, but they'll refund you the difference when you tell them you've sold.Or you cancel the direct debit and ask them what the balance is on the 16th once the sale has completed.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Maybe ring and ask them? If you explain they may let you pay a days rate.Me and sister did this when we sold. Rang the council and explained, they let us pay for the part month on the last month’s bill. If that makes sense! For every packet of fags you smoke, Jesus takes a month off your life and gives it to Keith Richards.0

You'll have to pay CT pro rata per day up to the date of the sale.If you've paid in advance, you'll get a refund. If you have not, you'll be charged for the final period up to that date.0

Your Council Tax bill will show you.

If you look at your Council Tax bill you'll see that you are charged for the period 01/04/2022 - 31/03/2023 and (unless you've made alternative arrangements) your instalments are payable over 10 months, starting on 01/04/2022 and ending on 01/01/2023. You are paying in advance and if you move house or claim any Council Tax Reduction or discount during the year, your bill will be adjusted to reflect that, including any payments you've already made, and a refund issued if appropriate.geoffc2020 said:I pay the council tax by debit card each month but just wondering if council tax is paid in advance or arrears?0 -
My council charges over the 12 month period, but the payment is collected around the middle of each month.Jude57 said:
