Utility Point
Hi everyone,
I hope someone can help me or point me in the right direction.
I was with Utility Point for just over a year until May 2021 when moved homes. At this time, I was out of contract with Utility Point.
I submitted my final readings to Utility Point over the phone and confirmed that I was moving out even supplying the new owners name etc.
I was told from the advisor that I was due a credit as I had overpaid throughout the contract.I received this refund a couple of weeks later and this was the last I heard from them directly.
Fast forward until yesterday when I received a debt collection letter from Barratt Smith & Brown who are acting on behalf of Utility Point chasing a debt of over £550. Naturally I've called this company who have stated that they are still awaiting bills from Utility Point to be uploaded to their system so they are unable to comment on the balance at this time.
After this call, I've tried to log onto Utility Point directly to see what is happening but they went into administration back in September 2021. Their website now has no option to look at previous bills etc.
So I'm in a situation where I'm being chased for money after they have refunded me for overpayment. I have a bank statement to show the credit going in but this is the only evidence that I have.
I'm waiting for the debt collectors to come back to me with further information but I'm unsure if I need to complain would I need to complain to Ofgem or FCA?
Has anyone else had a similar situation?
I hope someone can help me or point me in the right direction.

you're not the first.Send them a "prove it" letter and let them provide evidence of your debt. This is the link to the "Prove It" letter template and advice on what (and what not) to say:

You might try a search on here for a link directly to the part of the UP website that was still allowing access to user accounts too - you never know your luck, it might just turn up something useful.
Regardless though - ProveIt letter as as above is your first step - this is most likely just a “fishing trip” and they’ll disappear when challenged.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Did anyone resolve their issues? I thought I did back in 2022 but find myself being chased and threatened with court action yet again.0
