Not sure what to look for as my 14 year old Hotpoint has stopped working (leak from the bottom, it's not the filter).
Honestly just need something enough for a family of 5 in London, quiet, and rinses well as I don't have a dryer

I don't think that anyone here knows which is the 'best'.For quiet make sure you buy a 'direct drive' one. Mine is Hotpoint WDD960 (washer dryer) and it's extremely quiet except when spinning, that, I think, is unavoidable.0

When our Samsung went wrong the independent repair man said Bosch Siemens as parts easily obtainable. Siemens £30 dearer for the same machine but longer warranty’s so went for that0

I'd go with something like this:
https://www.bootskitchenappliances.com/product/wau28t64gb-bosch-serie-6-washing-machine-white-79568-1.aspxTakes a 9kg load, has a decent spin on it, has good reviews on noise levels and, well, it's a Bosch.Price at Boots compares to others - they're actually supplied by ao.com and that is what will come up on your statement, but you'll get nearly £20 to spend at Boots if you put your Advantage Card number in.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

It might be worth taking out a trial subscription to Which? Washing machines are one of the things that I trust their judgment on.
Their cheapest Best Buy is Bosch WAJ28008GB

No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

Amusingly, she herself went for a Serie 4 for her new place, as it doesn't have the auto-dispenser for detergent and cond. She doesn't trust it .. :-)0 -
Apparently ebac are supposed to be good, never heard of them myself, but they are made in Britain if you are feeling patriotic0

After our 6 year old Hoover washer recently dies, we bought a Samsung WW90T684DLH/S1. It wa £559 at AO but with a discount scheme through my employer, I managed to get 20% by buying direct from Samsung so came in at £450.
It has a 5 year full warranty and 10 years on the motor. So far, we're very pleased with it. It's much quieter than the hoover and washes very well. It's got an autodose feature so you top up the wash liquid and softener every few weeks and it decides how much to use based on the load. It also has wifi which we thought would be a gimmick but it's actually quite useful that it pops up on your phone to tell you it's finished or you can look at the app to see how long is left (Our washer is in a utility room in the cellar so saves having to go down to check it!).
I was going to go for Bosch but the Samsung was a better deal and I'm not convinced Bosch is much better quality. I've got a Bosch heat pump dryer and within two years had to replace the drive belt followed by the tensioner wheel 6 months later. The dryer was just out of warranty and Bosch weren't interested in helping out unless I paid £100 for a visit so I ended up fixing it myself both times.0 -

When we replaced our still-working Miele it had 18000 hours of use on the clock. For comparison, a car running that many hours would have covered around a million miles. The washing machine needed just one repair during the 20 years we owned it - the seal was replaced. We generally get an awful lot out of these machines, considering how little they cost.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0
