Received a final bill after 14 months
Hey, hoping you lovely people can offer some advice.
I have recently received a collection bill from EDF as they took over green network energy when they collapsed (I left them in April 2021). I received. A final letter from green network informing me of this and explaining that EDF will take over the debit and bill, with me not requiring to do anything. I switched to another provider and I have received a letter 14 months onwards requesting money on behalf of EDF.

I have looked into ofgem back bill policy which states I am liable for energy used only within the last 12 months and not outside of it EDF have not been particularly helpful or supportive, have offered once off money off and even stayed it will cost me £40 to register the complaint with ofgem.

Your complaint is free, no cost and you must get a deadlock letter from EDF before it can be escalated.
If you are not disputing the bill and the energy used then £40 isn't that bad but you could push them for more then settle the bill.0 -
Problem here might be that the bill comes from Green, who are no longer a licensed supplier and therefore are not limited by the Ofgem back billing rules.
EDF is not billing you, they are just working as a debt collector here.0 -
Well I managed to get this resolved by escalating it to the complaints department, they've waved the bill and is all sorted.
I will add that they were very pushy on knocking off £20-50 and insisting they couldn't do anything more.0 -
You got this resolved in the 8 minutes between your first and second post?5

Save the confirmation email or get one and a letter to store away should this come back to bite👍0

I had been muted by a customer advisor on the phone and was on live chat with EDF.
I've took screenshots of the conversation too1 -
I suspect they have waived the bill simply because the sum is too small to bother getting into a dispute; not because of the '12 month back-billing' provision you quoted.

And keep all evidence somewhere safe for at least 6 years - in a few months time ,EDF ,will, no doubt, sell off a bunch of unrecoverable debts to a rapacious debt collector and it's (always) possible that your final bill will be included !endorin said:I had been muted by a customer advisor on the phone and was on live chat with EDF.
