Worrying case of Santander bank transfer

in Credit cards
Hi. On 26 May I've logged into Santader webside to arrange a bank transfer. After putting in the credit card details (in this case for an MBNA card) Santander send a OTP. After receiving that passcode I've entered it into Santanders website and in response a page has been presented which includes the following " You've successfully transferred your balance". You would only receive that notice if you correctly entered the OTP, which I did. Yesterday I noticed an email from MBNA which prompted me the check the transfer and found that no transfer had been made. So, I have redone the transfer and got an email from MBNA confirming it. On my phone I have the text message dated the 26th which has the OTP from Santander. So, there is no doubt that on the 26th I was engaged in a balance transfer activity. I am 100% certain the OTP that I reported back to Santander was correct, because I distincly rememember reading " You've successfully transferred your balance". So, I have relied on that statement. I may have suffered extra costs from MBNA because of the transfer that was and then wasn't. I've not contacted Santander yet. Rich

I'm not terribly familiar with the Santander online banking as I tend to use the app, 'transferred your balance' sounds like the sort of message you get after transferring between your Santander accounts tho. I'd expect a payment to a credit card to be referred to as a payment.Did you need to transfer money before making the payment, and mistook doing that for completing the payment? (I ask because this is the sort of thing I end up doing all the time!)0

As I say I've had to redo the balance transfer which has been confirmed by MBNA. And the staement for that balance transfer is "Youv'e succesfully transferred your balance". So that text does tie in with a credit card balance transfer. I'm going to have to contact Santander on the high street and see if they can psyche out the issue.

So you are paying your MBNA credit card from you Santander bank acc?
Or where you transferring a balance from a Santander CC to a MBNA card? Which from the sound of the message is what you were doing.
So if the it showed as payment sent, then you would see a debit on your santander bank account. If not a couple of options. Wrong code or gone for a fraud check.Life in the slow lane0 -
Hi. This morning I went into MBNA and the balance indicated that no payment had been made into the account from my Santander debit account. So, I've gone into Santander where my Santander credit account indicated no balance transfer had taken place. So, today I redid the balance transfer. OK, I've just got into my Santander accounts and scrolled down the page. And guess what I see two balance transfer transactions. Something has gone seriously wrong here. Todays transfer has worked, but not the one on the 26th. Yet, the format of the information is identical for both transactions.Date Card No. DESCRIPTION MONEY IN MONEY OUT05/06 7218 BALANCE TRANSFER MERCH £1724.5805/06 7218 BALANCE TRANSFER FEE £51.7427/05 7218 PAYMENT RECEIVED £1,771.5126/05 7218 BALANCE TRANSFER MERCH £1,771.5126/05 7218 BALANCE TRANSFER FEE £53.15I checked to see if the fee for the 26th had been taken from my Santander debit card and it had not.0

I'm lost here.
You keep mentioning Santander Debit Card & Balance transfer.
2 different things.
A Balance transfer is between 2 credit cards.
You can pay a credit card from a debit card (No Fee)
Which account is that above?
As Balance Transfer fee sounds to me like you are taking money from the Credit Card & sending it to either another credit card, or sending it to you bank account.
Just what are you trying to do?Life in the slow lane0 -
I'm lost too.
Whatever happened on the 26th May it looks like it was reversed and credited back to you the following day
Perhaps you entered the incorrect account details and although you received the OTP it bounced back from wherever you sent it.0 -

Correct. I'm not understanding the hysterics either. The first attempt failed and was credited back to the origin account. Why? umm...call MBNA maybe and ask.

Looks like the credit card balance transfer on 26th May failed. Call Santander to find out why and request the fee back.0
