Hello all

I'm with EON Next. I am on their Next Flex tarrif for both Electricity & Gas.

My monthly direct debit is £229.70 (for both, Gas & Electric). Is this normal? I was paying £99 a month before. I know energy prices have risen, but should it be this high? :(

Here is a screenshot.

I'm struggling with bills at the moment, I have nothing left over to save.

    It depends on your usage.

Were you previously in credit or debit? Does the new figure include arrears? How does your forecast usage match up with the monthly figure?

I did not owe them money previously. I remember checking a few days before the price hike. I will start writing down my meter readings in a spreadsheet so that I can see my usage and do the calculation myself.

Did you recently come off a fixed rate? It can be quite a shock moving from a good fixed rate deal to the variable capped rate. As an example ours changed from £75 to £177.70

You can only really calculate fully with a years energy usage do you know your kWh used?

You won't be the only one without money left over for a savings pot. This is the new norm and come October this year another 40% plus rise just in time for all the costly winter energy bills. Which because it's where people use most of their energy will mean a far greater than 40% rise in their direct debits in pounds and pence for the year.

Your screenshot shows that you are £115 in debt, over the next 6 months that will add £20 per month to your direct debit.

@Mstty already asked if you recently came of a fixed tariff, which would explain the huge increase in your debit order.

Positive is the £400 you will receive over 6 months in winter, but that will just cover the 40% increase for the cap that is the forecast at the moment if your debit order is correct.

@Ciwan Your screenshot also says thank you for a recent meter reading.

How good are you at giving Eon Next meter reads ?
