I think I may have broken some kind of record - simple estate, no IHT, applied online 20 May and just received email confirmation that probate has been granted !

Applied May 8th, no IHT, simple estate although no will. Web chat said would be 10-12 weeks before they even look at it. Status currently shows as submitted.

An update to my previous post.
    Simple estate no IHT.
Probate time quoted as 8 to 12 weeks.
Probate granted in 3.5 weeks from sending in paperwork.

Wow, did your case have a will?

We were advised as there is no will with ours cases are taking longer and it won't even get looked at before 8 weeks - likely wont be resolved until 10-12 weeks as best case.

They were also quoting a different date (a week later) than the probate dashboard's submission date for when the 8 weeks started
  • It seems very variable for no apparent reason! Mine (with a will), simple estate, no IHT, submitted on 17th May. Shows as submitted. Will chase after 8 weeks.

My mother died on 5th April.  She had a will.  I'm not sure when probate was applied for (I'm not the executor), but it was granted 7th June.
    I used to be seven-day-weekend

Probate approved email just received. A day short of 6 weeks since submission.

I've just received my probate approved email today, a little over 5 weeks since it was submitted. Fairly straightforward estate with no IHT.

How long does it normally take for the grant to appear online?
