EDF Direct Debit Whole Amount Monthly

Hi all. I hope you're doing well.

I'm confused and I wonder if you can help.

At the moment I'm with EDF (transferred to EDF when Utility Point went bust) and I'm on their Dual Fuel Budget Direct Debit Welcome Variable Pacakge

I give a meter reading every month and have asked for a bill each tome I give a meter reading

EDF has said no....that for me to get a bill each time I give a meter reading I have to opt to be on EDF's Direct Debit whole amount monthly

I've tried to find out if this costs more kwh for the gas and electric and I get no response to that question and I cant find any answer on google.

Am I simply being dim? (which is definitely possible!)

All help would be gratefully received B)

The cheapest way of paying is by direct debit, be it monthly budget or whole amount monthly.  Any other payment method costs more.

I am on EDF tariff. They only bill every six months if you are on budget direct debit, paying the same amount each month. They make adjustments to the DD amount if necessary, every 6 months and will not send a monthly bill. I do send monthly meter readings. But you can pay monthly direct debit the actual amount used on the same tariff rates in which case they will send a bill monthly, tell you how much it is and take that amount by DD a few days later. In a couple of months I am going to go onto that system so I don't have a debit or credit and it will be easier to accommodate the £400 discount to be given later this year.
  • Thank you so much for your replies. So are we saying that the Direct Debit Whole Amount Monthly costs no more per kwh than the budget direct debit?

Whole amount monthly and budget (fixed) direct debit are exactly the same rates. Both are billed at direct debit rates.

Only disadvantage is that you need to budget yourself for the winter when the monthly cost is higher.
  • Thank you! That's ok because I have set up an EDF savings account which will hopefully be my backup when things get really tough (fingers crossed!)

    Yes, exactly that.
When I was with EDF I switched to DDWAM and my rates stayed the same.

  • Thanks everyone. I've switch to DDWAM with EDF. A bill was produced immediately which is so helpful because I now have a real picture of my energy usage and not some fictitious credit!
  • I have been on this method of payment for years.

I have checked my bills and from the date they are produced you should have a minimum of 14 days before the DD is taken which allows you to move money around as necessary.

I have a Smart Meter and EDF's idea of a "month" can vary from 28 to 36 days, so even if you are manually supplying readings after an email reminder from them, that email may not arrive exactly when you expect it.

  • Thank you. It'll take a bit of getting used to, I'm sure. I've never worried before but I'm so scared about not knowing whats happening with my (potential) energy debt that this seems the way to go
  • I'm not sure if I should start a new thread for this...but I'll give it a go here first. I was listening to Martin's podcast from this week and he suggested that now might be the time to fix. He mentioned EDF's Fixed Total Service May 2024 V3 + 4.

On my EDF account I cant find that particular option but there is a 2 year fix and the monthly payment will be £137.00 a month. I'm currently paying (around) £77.00 a month. I'm assuming its not worth me fixing?
