What idiots BG are!

I accept that a "true" lower reading 2912 would give rise to him having underpaid PfP.I question where BG arrived at 2912 as a start read. I *think* (but don't know for sure) that 2912 is an outlier and that PfP would have had earlier gas readings closer to 3490 in the months prior to October. It's not my account, and I'm not sure my friend can retrieve bills and records that would show his version of events. As I said earlier, it seemed that his PfP account was kept in balance with his DD payments and a 600m3 discrepancy whilst he was with them seems unlikely .

Update. My friend's issue with BG now seems to have been resolved. He came round so we could jointly point out to BG that their opening gas meter reading of 2912m3 was a rogue value and had lead to gross overestimation of his annual consumption. We were pleasantly surprised that BG's customer service agent so readily acknowledged the mistake (previous attempts by my friend to do so had floundered)BG were apologetic and happy to revise their start reading used based on a figure we supplied, which was in keeping with his historical usage. After recalculating billing based on the corrected opening reading, his account was found to be in credit and the ongoing combined monthly DD adjusted accordingly to below £100 month rather than £431 he'd been told would be due from 1st July..When the dust settles, I think he will try to sign up with Octopus and keep tighterr control of his accounts.
