First family holiday, where to start

I want to start thinking about our first family holiday but I haven’t been away since my kids were born (oldest is almost 16 ☺️) and I need a tick list on what I need to do to make it all happen. Based on the many reports of issues experienced by those left in the lurch during Covid, Love Holidays (and similar OTAs like On The Beach and Lastminute) would be well down my list of agents to use, so for an OP who's looking for "most reliable/safest/cheapest" provider then they have a decision to make about whether to prioritise 'most reliable/safest' or 'cheapest'....
