The newpush site is described here, that is assuming that site is genuine!

newpush.support is one of many rogue websites, the number of which is growing daily. Examples of other virtually identical sites include bodelen.com, mobnootiffy.com, and lameterthenhep.info. The main goal of this website is to display dubious content or force visitors to open other dubious websites.
Typically, people end up visiting newpush.support due to potentially unwanted applications (PUAs) installed on their browsers or operating systems. PUAs are often installed inadvertently, force users to visit untrustworthy websites and feed them with intrusive ads, and collect data.

The name doesn't ring a bell at all though, it must have tricked me by one of the methods described

Good link and useful for anybody else reading this thread.

All those websites refuse to connect on my PC - not because of anti-virus software but because of a mix of cloudfare safe browsing DNS / Trend Micro web filtering on my router and uBlock Origin add-in on my browser.

I'd suggest using things like that to keep your PC clean - anti virus is general "after the event" detection when something has already been downloaded to your PC.

Blocking malicious sites is far more effective.

....................... with a good browser such as Edge / Chrome with an adblock like uBlock Origin and you will be better off in the long run that using additional AV software.

Do you not consider Firefox a "good browser"?

I do consider Firefox good - the "such as" was just off the top of my head, also Safari and there are a number of other good ones.

I've always had Avast & Malwarebytes installed. Both are free.

Personally, I've never relied on Windows Defender. Maybe I should get rid of Avast & try it out on my home PC & work laptop.

You can try all the anti-virus programmes you like but as someone pointed our to me years ago the only one that you can rely on is yourself.

If you insist on clicking instead of thinking first none of them will work.
