What to do with fireplace?

Hi, any ideas on how we can modernise this fireplace? How much would a removal of the surround cost and what other options could there be?

Thanks in advance!

Removal is cheap. You can even DIY. Modernisation depends on what you want and on the chimney.

Looks like the hearth has already been changed as there is a drop in piece of laminate in front

The cost is in making good the wall/flooring afterwards

An alternative  option would be to paint the surround & tiles.  You can even replace the tin edges on the fire for different effects

Have you decorated to suit the fireplace as the pieces of furniture either side suggest? You could paint the surround any colour you like or remove it in favour of another. You could also change the tiles or set a new stone surround and hearth over them. Some second hand on net but they tend to be heavy so keep fairly local. The inset is what it is, you could have it removed but then you would have to deal with whatever is behind.
  • It depends on your budget and what you want to end up with.

Taking out the surround and the tiles bit is an easy diy job, replacing the gas fire (I assume it’s gas) and making good the surroundings is a bit more difficult but most of it could be diy.

Ripped mine out, then dot and dabbed a sheet of plasterboard over it.

I like what is there! :)
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?
