Cardiff area advice

  • I agree with the Cardiff areas mentioned so far. I also think Barry is a great great place, but the West End ideally (anywhere around High St/Park Crescent). Close to beaches and country parks, easy fast transport into Cardiff and a friendly place.

If they’re specifically looking for a more active LGBT community though I’d go with the Bay or some of the other areas mentioned above, but they’ll be hard pushed to find a house there on that budget sadly.

If your son & friend are going to be in Cardiff at any point soon, it might be worth them dropping in to the Queer Emporium on St Mary's St to ask the staff their opinions - they'll know about whatever locations they live in, and will probably have insight if there are any specific areas of Cardiff better than others

lol,oh you are funny, it's just called Mary's, hasn't been the Emporium for years. And you don't need to go asking in a gay bar where do the gays live in Cardiff
Not sure if you're joking, but we're talking about the shop/cafe/event space in Royal arcade that opened last year. Whenever I've been by the staff seem young-ish and presumably live locally, so would have a better idea of current good places to live for young people than this forum which I think tends to skew older.

I do agree with other posters that it will be difficult to find a house for that budget in Cardiff itself though!
