There wasa time I thought we had rats in the roof space, turned out to be squirrels

Me too..... thats why I know about our council not doing anything about them... although when I was looking into it, I found out about the rats mice ect. And I think some councils do help with squirrels.
Everyone thinks squirrels are lively fluffy little things.... but they caused alot of damage in my loft.... and man, are they noisey little critters  .
Mine came from next door... the end terrace.
And the squirrel man that came to get rid of them said they would have just run the length of the terrace... like rats do:eek:... if no one done anything about them.
Next door had them for 2 months... then they came into me.... for a weekend and the squirrel man took them away:rolleyes:

    No... not at all basil.

A couple of years ago, at approx 5 am a weird noise in the loft woke me up. Turned out it was squirrels... 4 to be exact... 3 babies, 1 female adult.
I had to pay to have them removed, as my council dont consider them to be vermin.. like rats and mice.

I spoke to my neighbours... where the squirrels were coming from, and they totally absolved them self of any responsibity... saying that the squirrels were in my loft, therefore my problem.
Although the squirrels were seen by other neighbours going into their loft, through a loose roof slate on their house, and then through the eaves into my loft.
I am the second of a 6 terrace block.
After much discussion with various council departments, then private companies, I managed to find the squirrel man who removed them. My hero really:happylove as not only did he remove the noisy little critters, but he spoke to the obnoxious neighbours, and they did pay for half the cost of the squirrel removal. It cost me, and them, £180:eek: ... and that was a coulple of years ago.
I never did find out what the squirrel man said to my neighbours.. but I think the word maggotts was involved

I know my council did not really do anything for me, other than listen, and point me in the correct direction, but they were incredibly helpful none the less. I hope your is too.
Good Luck.... I cant wait to find out how you get on basil :D

When I contacted the council I just said there was something in the roof scrabbling about, It was the council man that said it was squirrels, after he examined their droppings. Grey squirrels were classed as vermin so he said he could put poison down, but I couldn't do that, so having been shown where they were coming in OH had to do the repairs

morning all? Was woken up by my uninvited house guest at 5.40am! (am exhausted) I am now sat up in bed, trying to keep warm, listening to it scratching around in the walls! its horrible, i get scared that it will get into my room? Dont think i mentioned this before, but my bedroom is in a semibasement, however i also hear the rat in the ground floor room, behind a cupboard which houses the electric meter!!!!! I am pretty sure it gets in from further down terrace and into mine at ground floor level, and then moves down the wall into my room. Sorry to moan, but am fed up with it, especially after paying £100 to get rid of it  ? Oh i wish it would go away, i am so tired! Sorry again, you have all been so supportive and helpful, that i feel bad about whinging on. Hope you all have a good day

I'm having problems with mice, and when I spoke to our council, they said they would only help if it were rats, otherwise, all they could do was give me poison.

Ticklemouse, I had thought of buying those sonic things. Like you, we live in a 3 storey house and the mice have been found on all three floors.

Hope you sort your problem soon basil92.

    Best wishes

I know how you feel basil.

I thought I only had one mouse, but it seems a whole tribe have moved in. I found one in my bedroom the other day, and I couldn't sleep in there until I had caught it.
Thankfully it's not rats, as that seems much worse.

Good luck with sorting out the problem

    Take care

Basil - I know exactly how you feel.

When we had our little ratty friends, hey would run around our attic storage areas and then they found a little gap into our bedroom roof (the main bedroom is a flat roofed extension) and lo and behold, didn't they decide to set up camp RIGHT ABOVE the bed. I used to lie there at night and could hear them scrabbling and sometime squeaking about 6 ft from my nose  I got so fed up of them one day that when I heard them, I jumped on the bed and hammered the ceiling where the nest was and told them, in no uncertain terms, what I thought of them and where they could go :rotfl: Do you know I NEVER heard them in the bedroom again!! (I think that the rat posion was kicking in though cos a little while later, the smell started, luckily not above the bed)

My mum went into her conservatory the other day and while we were cleaning, we found mouse droppings on the window ledge. The little blighters had found their way in around the heating pipes and had lunched on the dried orange slices in a scented candle :rotfl:
