Energy provider gave wrong info in writing. Offered partial compensation for my loss

Unlike smart meters my electricity meter is priced based on a code entered when prices change (code includes the top up purchased and the date the meter should start charging the new rate)
eg Do a £10 top up on 30 May, spend £1 by 31 May. Meter charges the remaining £9 at the new June price (higher or lower)
Simplified description of issue:
Energy provider confirmed in writing that any electricity purchased on any date in May would be consumed at the May rate until all used, not the increased price starting 1 June.
Turns out that, that was only correct for purchases made before 11 May
Following their assurances and totally unaware of the importance of 11 May, I purchased electricity after 11 May and will be paying June rates for virtually all of that large top-up.

Additional cost to me about £300+
The energy provider has accepted they gave the incorrect information and initially offered £60 compensation, then £120.
I actually changed to a PAYG tariff based on their incorrect information.
My thoughts.

Go to small claims court for the full £300+ and take my chances.

Sounds like a simple stick-or-twist situation. Take the £120 or go to court in the hope of getting either an increased offer or a judgement in your favour, with the risk that you lose and end up with nothing and having incurred court fees because they withdraw the current offer.
If you're certain they've breached the terms of the contract and can actually prove a loss of £300 rather than an estimate that may or not be accurate, court seems a sensible route. I suspect a LBA will elicit an improved offer anyway.1
