I can understand the car eye sight requirement, reading a number plate, which I can do.
I had my eyes tested 18 months ago, I got a prescription which states sphere, cylinder and axis, 1.50 0.75 and 45
A quick Google says HGV PSV requires 6-7.5 what does that refer to?
I do have glasses, but I don't believe I am required to wear them.

Why are you asking the question?
IF you have your eyes tested at - least every two years - unless advised otherwise- Diabetics are advised every year and it is free - and you wear the glasses as prescribed - your personal opinion does not matter - then there should be no problems.
Many years ago not wearing glasses was a vanity thing and people were mocked but today people are (I hope) more sensible.

"Normal" eyesight is defined as 6/6. [Or 20/20 in the Imperial system which Johnson is promoting in an attempt to distract us from the important issues.]

The standard for car driving is 6/12. It means that you need to be 6 metres away to read what someone with "normal" vision can read at 12 metres. That is a pretty dismal standard.

The standard for HGV etc is more stringent, at 6/7.5.

Your prescription won't show that measure: it just gives the specification of the glasses needed to correct your eyesight.

6/6 is normal visual acuity. 6/7.5 is a bit worse than average visual acuity. Your optician can tell you what your visual acuity is. Given your prescription then unless you are elderly or have some known eye disease your optician should have corrected your vision to 6/6 so if you wear your glasses then you should obtain suitable visual acuity.

If you don’t wear them you should check with your optician what your uncorrected visual acuity is.

I have a very mild prescription- both eyes are equal and opposite.  I think that I’m still technically legal to drive without glasses, but, as the optician said, why would I?  If I’m driving at 70mph I should ensure that I can see as much as I can, from as far away as possible.

*** I think that I’m still technically legal to drive without glasses, ***

But the law is not interested in what you think - Your eyesight by your own admission does not meet the required standard without glasses - What you may do in your own vehicle is for you to decide BUT the title of the thread - Chosen by you is *PSV eye sight*

If you are applying for such a licence then you must meet the requirement, if that means wearing glasses to correct your eyesight then that is what you must do.

    Has he actually admitted that.

The requirement is to read a standard number plate from 20 metres.

Why are you asking the question?

I have never worn glasses before, these that I bought 18 months ago I find irritating. I have a lazy eye, so my brain ignores the image from that eye.
I am now conscious of the image from that eye when I wear glasses. Wearing glasses will take some getting used to.

Sounds like you shouldn't be driving anything until you sort it out.

If you read my posts you will see that I can read a number plate and have had my eyes tested 18 months ago.
Having a lazy eye does not affect your ability to see/drive.

I read your posts and you said "I have a lazy eye, so my brain ignores the image from that eye"

Car_54  said the standard is pretty dismal but you chose vanity over safety.
