I only bought my Ring a few months ago. I wanted the "Ring Protect Basic" features but had no idea they would increase this much !

Agree, a massive price hike.“Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?”

Eufy offer a no subscription doorbell cam, one of the the reasons I went for it.
although I wouldn't be surprised if they started charging for it shortly...1 -
Another massive price hike today - now Ring Basic Protect plan has gone up from £34.99 to £49.99 per year!!
this is outrageous but if you cancel you are left with a, virtually, useless system.
the only way you can save a bit of money is to cancel the plan before 11th March and take it out again, this way you will renew at £34.99 for this year. Any months not used on your cancelled contract will be refunded pro rata.
this will buy you extra time at the current contract price.
it is only delaying the inevitable however, you will face the same dilemma this time next year0 -
Is it useless without subscription? I thought it just didn’t record footage without a subscription, but you could still see who rings the bell and talk to them.0

I have always thought it was a con paying to watch the stored last few days of footage, just a money making system. I have several CCTV cameras and they each have an SD card that holds a few weeks of footage before it is overwritten. I can access this from any internet connection in the world. This is similar to many devices so why didn't Ring incorporate a SD card system, its obvious because then they couldn't make money that way.
I feel like changing to a different system that does employ an SD card but not sure which one would be as good at this moment.
I am sure there will be other just as good systems that don't have an annual fee, trouble is I bought the expensive wired version of the Ring doorbell as it seemed slightly better in many ways, i.e. not having to rely on WIFI for one, was something I liked about it. It would mean ditching this expensive Ring to switch and then would the next one just connect easily to my Ethernet cable or would it need more cabling.0
