The benefits of multiple current accounts

You might have seen me extolling the virtues of having multiple current accounts. So here goes my experience this morning.....
- Can't make payments from Santander as their FP system isn't working. Took me 20 minutes on the phone to find this out, they have no message up to say there are issues, but their Security folks tell me it is a general issue with no fix estimate
- OK, no prob, I just use my Chase account. Payment submitted, instant text from Chase to say the payment will be delayed as they are "running some security checks". They won't respond to my chat message and don't answer the phone
- Never mind, I'll just use my Virgin Money accounts then.......errrm, no, I don't because I can't even log in, in the app or in online banking, probably because there's a mad rush for their new 1.56% saver rate
- at this point, I give up and go for a long walk. I will keep those multiple accounts, though, as they each still have a purpose.

and there is the moral of the story- don't put all your eggs in one basket, have several accounts and then at least one of them surely must be working!!Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

Thanks for the heads up about Santander. Will skip that step in my 'first of the month' move-abouts until they sort their stuff out.

Well sure, one of them is working. Just not the one you need to access because your money is in it.Katiehound said:and there is the moral of the story- don't put all your eggs in one basket, have several accounts and then at least one of them surely must be working!!

It is small though, as I have credit cards that would cover most regular transactions.1 -
It's Direct Debit day for a lot of MSE. We're not talking about buying a pint of milk.wiseonesomeofthetime said:

Yeah, I have enough in each account to pay my DDs.
The issue would be if the account that holds my DDs was the one not accepting incoming payments!
Wouldn't matter how many accounts I had then 🤷♂️0 -
Santander working for me now. Chase and Virgin still hibernating. But Halifax working nicely, and no issues with RBS and Natwest, either, now that funds from Santander have arrived

No issues today for me with Chase.
Virgin mega slow. App wouldn't even load. Not bothered though tbf.
Monzo, RBS, Nationwide, Halifax and Starling all worked smoothly this morning too.0
