Replacing a strobe light help

Hi folks,
Hoping someone might be able to help with this.
The strobe light in my kitchen has been flickering - so, without knowing if the bulb is dead or it’s something else, I don’t mind putting a new one in and seeing if that fixes it.
The light is marked “F65/80W/35”, which looking on Screwfix it looks like this is the old style of light that aren’t made anymore. Does anyone know what the equivalent would be please?
Secondly it’s 5ft so too long for the wheelie bin, does anyone know how these should be disposed of? Googling online and seeing some conflicting accounts of whether this is hazardous waste or not.

Finally, does anyone happen to know of any reputable Amazon stores I could buy from? I’d use Screwfix but they don’t do delivery and it’s a bit of a hike for me to get to the nearest store as I don’t have a car.

Hi grumble,
Yes, I meant fluorescent not strobe. I could tell something was wrong when I posted but couldn’t figure out what. Often do this when I’m especially sleep deprived. Usually the wrong word is similar sounding/spelling, though I know it’s not quite right.Ok so any one of those Screwfix 5ft tubes should be ok -?
just googling fluorescent tubes and seeing they contain mercury and argon so perhaps not a good idea to smash one to fit in the wheelie bin I guess and will careful putting the new one in.0 -
Yes, they contain mercury so can’t be disposed of in normal household waste. I think the LED ones are safe though but that’s more for future reference. One aspect I haven’t kind figured out yet is whether LED tubes can always be used as direct replacements for fluorescent tubes. It seems that sometimes, the electronics require modification, either by replacing the starter with a LED version or in other cases, something more extreme. Hopefully someone else will be more knowledgable on what you need to look out for though.Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0

Just replace the existing starter with the one provided and install the tube lamp.

Morning,
thanks for your replies - appreciate the help
Re: LED, I’d prefer this, suspect it’d be beyond me to do but will look into. Just googling “starter” info, hadn’t realised this might be another part of the light that might need replaced.
re: council tips, yes I think you’re right. Interesting point, our local one doesn’t allow you to visit if you’re not in a vehicle. I phoned the council to ask about this in the past as I don’t have a car, but you’re not allowed to go on foot or by bike. This seems mad to me but the lady I spoke with was adamant, said it’s for the safety of the workers. Huh? Oh well you know if people are bringing heavy items or electric goods. Come again? I just had a rucksack of bedding, wasn’t carrying a fridge on my back. I’m sure there will be some sensible way to dispose of it. Council does do a special uplift service but think it’s quite expensive so will see.0
