I'm sure the OP is aware of that. And unless the item is the last one available that shouldn't be a problem. One can always try again.Mnoee said:Ah, OK. Well, hopefully he doesn't want to buy anything when you're in the shower, driving, at work, or otherwise unable to call.1 -
Mnoee, if getting my mobile number on the account can be done, he can tip me off before hand. I'm retired, don't drive and I doubt whether any purchase will be so urgent it can't wait if I'm busy at one of my hobby groups.1

If that works for both of you, great. I don't think a gentle reminder of the practicalities of such a set-up was out of place.
I'm young, but with disabilities, and often people suggest it's 'easier' for me to be totally dependent on someone else for certain tasks. And it often is in the short term, but I've also seen the problems it can cause.

Presumably you would have to be logged in to your father's bank account to input the code or is he able to to input the code if you tell him what it is?
Would a textphone be a possibility?

Good point, OP talks about his father not being able use a smartphone, but if all he needs to get are texts, any 'dumbphone' or 'feature phone' would do. A large text version obviously, so not a classic nokia but there are many others e.g. https://www.goodhousekeeping.com/uk/product-reviews/tech/g33440915/best-dumb-phones/sheramber said:Presumably you would have to be logged in to your father's bank account to input the code or is he able to to input the code if you tell him what it is?

Someone already mentioned the Artfone C1 which is a 'dumbphone' designed with elderly people or those who can't manage complex devices in mind. Under £30, and with a £5 RWG mobile sim, there's not even any running cost.Zanderman said:

I'm baffled as to why these cheap or free devices are being instantly dismissed, instead of discussed but hey ho.

Be careful buying a big button phone. The ones I looked at 2-3 years ago only worked on 2G. With 2G being turned off in the near future as far as I know, that solution may not work going forward.
There are many Artfones sold by Amazon. I just looked at one and it was 2G.0 -

Likewise, particularly as the OP states
Dad is still capable of doing many banking things for himself using the banks dedicated "hard of hearing" phone number.0 -
Not an issue at all for receiving texts, only if you wanted to use it to go online.lr1277 said:Be careful buying a big button phone. The ones I looked at 2-3 years ago only worked on 2G. With 2G being turned off in the near future as far as I know, that solution may not work going forward.

Thank you all for your additional comments. I must admit I also thought the "old style" big button mobiles were on their way out because 2G was going. Clearly no one seeing my post so far has first hand experience of this problem, so unless someone who has does see it, it looks like it's going to be a case of trial and error.0
