I am terrible with money - bit embarrassed

    Don't be embarassed about being "terrible with money". I for one probably wouldn't be here if I wasn't at one stage terrible with money and I expect others would say the same! :-)
    In any case, at least you've admitted there's a problem and are now seeking advice, which is a massive step!

    The advice given above by Mimi_Arc_en_ciel about keeping a spreadsheet and separate bank accounts is great. I have a bank account for salary to go in and bills to come out of, a savings account for emergency funds/savings, and a Monzo account for everyday spending.
    The Monzo account is only basic but very good IMO - it updates instantly if you make a transaction, and it has as a "Trends" feature which categorizes what you're spending your money on (for example groceries, eating out, transport, etc.) which I've found be extremely useful in helping me stick to a budget.
