Hi there, Given the current state of affairs with cancelled flights, what is the best way to insure yourself against a cancelled flight impacting on a hotel booking. One that is already paid for. In other words cancelled flight unable to travel money lost. Thanks Richard

Check your policy cover for delayed/abandonment... some are broad and will cover abandonment based on your flight being cancelled and its replacement being more than 24 hours later whereas others explicitly exclude cases where the carrier has cancelled.1

I've got annual insurance with Nationwide Flex Plus and that covers any delay / cancellation. However, I was really surprised that Admiral and Post Office (the only 2 I've checked) were both very limited. The delay / cancellation must be due to a strike, industrial action, weather or technical issue.
I think they should be flagging this at the moment as most people would not look beyond the delayed/abandonment summary to see the detail.0 -
KLM cancelled a flight 4hrs before we were leaving for the airport (technical issues). The alternate proposed flight arrived over 25 hours late so we lost money on car hire, hotels and activities we had booked independently.
We received compensation from the airline but it turns out our annual holiday insurance (Millstream) does not cover any costs incurred if you have not started your journey to the airport when you are informed! Grrrrr.0 -
I would recommend booking the whole trip with the agency if you want to ensure you're fully insured and covered for any unforeseen circumstances. It's always better to have that peace of mind while traveling. As for exploring attractions like Goldfield Ghost Town, it's a good idea to check with goldfield ghost town customer service to see if they have any special offers or packages available.
