2 questions about eon electric
Can anyone help with questions about Eon?
I've rung their customer service and as much as she was really lovely she didn't really help as such.
I have a pre payment key which I top up as I use it, how do these work?
I assumed that as I'm using the electric it takes off the money as I'm using it, is this correct?
The thing is Monday to Friday I'm out of the house from before 8am till nearly 6pm and the only thing that's using electric is a small fridge/freezer, yet I'm being charged the same in the week as on a Sunday when I'm in all day.
also i asked if i would save money by having a credit account rather than a pre payment key and she said there wasn't much difference (I'm sure on Martin Lewis show he said to get rid of pre payment keys as that would help bring the bill down)
grateful for any help,thank you.

Depending on your lifestyle, you might not be using very much electricity when you're at home during the day. A lot of your use could be in the evenings, and will be the same weekdays & weekends. How much dooes your meter say you spend during the day, while you're out at work?also i asked if i would save money by having a credit account rather than a pre payment key and she said there wasn't much difference (I'm sure on Martin Lewis show he said to get rid of pre payment keys as that would help bring the bill down)
The price difference between pre-pay and credit electricity accounts is typically around 10p/day. Not a big saving although I'm sure that if money is tight it all adds up.N. Hampshire, he/him. Octopus Intelligent Go elec & Tracker gas / Vodafone BB / iD mobile. Ripple Kirk Hill member.

Hi
thank you for the welcome and for replying.
I waited because I knew I was spending a few nights away from the house so I could take the readings and how much I was charged.
so I took the first reading Wednesday morning which was
31205.48
I was away 4 nights (dog sitting daughter dogs) and took the last reading Sunday morning which was
31210.77
I was charged £6.63
I know it doesn't seem like a lot but the only thing using electricity was a small fridge/freezer.
thank you.

Standing charge may well be up to £2 of this so that leaves 3.3kWh a day.
Our daily draw sits roughly at 2kWh a day with a fridge freezer 70/30 and an outside freezer (small), router and various required devices on
It will be worth you checking what is on such as a sky box? Maybe check your immersion isn't left switched on or on a schedule for hot water.

Plus the daily standing charge which is almost 50p a day0

Even something daft like cleaning the seals on the fridge/freezer might help. If the seals aren't quite doing their job it will need to power up more often to keep cool.Barnsley, South Yorkshire

That still leaves £4 for a use of 5KWh (31210-31205). You should pay less than 30p per KWh, £1.5 for the whole use.
So there are £2.50 that you have been charged without any information what it is for.
Did you get a new key when you moved in or do you use the old key? Only explanation I have is that you are using the old key and you are paying off a debt of the former owner on this key. You should never just use the key that is still in the property to avoid this problem and always ask for a new key.
