The computer has a 1200 watt power supply but I was told it doesn't draw that much power all the time. But it is hot in his room when he has it on and the fans are going all the time. I think my son might have asd and he doesn't go out much but the computer has to be off at night at 9. So on average he's probably using it 4 hours a day and it's mainly playing football I think.
I got the air fryer out yesterday and made some oven chips which usually take 30 minutes in oven only took about 10 and the preheat of 3 minutes.
I really do need to lower usage some how.

Ouch... One electrical (and the monitor/speakers) item is 25% of your monthly bill.
If it was being used for web browsing, watching Netflix, spreadsheets or playing a non demanding game the fans wouldn't be whirring.
It's hard to gauge but in a system like the one in your house the above will use 200w and hour.

Doing something demanding playing higher end game/s, video/photo editing or music making/editing put lots of strain on the CPU and graphics cards. This causes the CPU to get hot (up to 80C) if it's been over clocked they can get over 90C. It may only be on for 4 hours after school, but there is the weekends to account for too.
Doing the above as someone else stated will be around 1kw + per hour.

Good news is you can bring that load down by changing the game settings and In graphics card settings, which would generate less heat thus using less energy per hour. However the game may lag so hard it could be no fun to play or may not even load at all (but that where settings need to be tweaked).

Either way if the room is hot when the PC is on and the fans are on it's using pretty much using it's full power.

Back to my previous post... Get the side/s taken off blow out the dust. Make sure the PC tower is not on the floor sucking up all the dust from the floor or worse carpet back into it again making it work inefficiently and also increasing the risk of fire.

I don't think I can make him get rid of the computer or get a different one. He's been asking today for me to get credit for another one and I said no chance. Its like I am the only one actually trying to not use as much electricity and everybody else is just taking the mick really. They think that it's won't run out on the meter and if it does money will magical appear from somewhere to pay for it. I am on benefits and have to plan ahead for bills. I got child tax credits yesterday and I have £5 left on bank till child benefit and income support on tuesday. Which is more or less all gone already.
Feeling like I am near close to a breakdown at this point.

    Thanks
