This is really helpful. I think I selected consumer but I can’t recall, I’ll see if it says on the order. I definitely didn’t select business. Thank you0

Business is selected as default. Easiest way to tell will be whether your price included VAT at 20% or not.

Why would the VAT indicate business or consumer purchase? Both have to pay it so both should see it listed.powerful_Rogue said:AndyandBrian said:This is really helpful. I think I selected consumer but I can’t recall, I’ll see if it says on the order. I definitely didn’t select business. Thank you

Businesses detailing with trade will often display prices net of VAT, where as with consumers the price must include applicable taxes, both will pay the same, it's just the way the prices will be displayed.TrickyDicky101 said:

OP is either a business or a consumer, a default selection box on a website doesn't change what they are.
If the company acknowledge cancellation for consumers then the first thing to OP is point out you are one and refer them to their terms.

Then it is going to come down to retailers T/C & exactly how the OP proceed with the purchase.Manxman_in_exile said:
But if the purchase value is > £100 and the supplier either (1) refuses to cancel the order as a distance sale or (2) they charge a restocking fee (which I understand the law does not permit) wouldn't the OP then have a valid s75 claim against their credit card provider?born_again said:
You don't have a dispute right.AndyandBrian said:Hi, I ordered shelves/pizza making kit from Adexa Direct on Sun 29/05 paying with Amex. I realised when I checked the email confirmation that evening there'd been a problem - some items in my order had doubled quantity e.g. 4 items instead of 2. I hadn't made this mistake as you had to update the quantity of each item separately. I phoned the company this morning thinking they would amend the error. They would - at a cost of 25% restock charge per item! I explained this was a website error, I didn't order double quantities - they disputed this, then said I should have noticed when the amount was significantly more at checkout (I didn't notice). I explained I haven't even got room for 2 shelves! When I said I would raise a dispute with my credit card company (can't yet as the transaction is still pending), they threatened to cancel whole order (over £230) and charge me 25%.
Can they do this? At this point I'd like to cancel entire order as customer service is appalling, but I'll settle for them amending the order. What are my rights? Thanks
Sadly, Not checking the order before pressing submit is not a dispute right.
OP has not mentioned any item amounts, other than total of over £230 so S75 is very much a unknown. Which sounds like this for 4 items, so would hint @ under £100 per item.

Yet did not notice double the items purchased?
I get what you are aiming at though 👍Life in the slow lane1 -
The default selection wouldn't make the OP a business, but it could confuse matters if the OP didn't notice the option and just clicked through - effectively saying "I am a business". They should still have the rights of a consumer, but it might take a little longer to get resolved.
