The always infuriating Bulb

We are with Bulb for elec and gas ( for our sins ) and the monthly payment is currently 220.80
I try and submit meter readings as often as possible and this month's bill is based on my reading - use comes to 135.47 and after payment, we'll be 124.84 in credit.

To organise any sort of refund, Bulb state on their website that you need to be in credit by at least the equivalent of your monthly payment ( which we're not ). Are they entitled to do that?

The "set your payment" window is also next to useless, as it tells you that it can't go below a figure they decide ( in our case 218.00 ).

I'd be grateful for all takes on this and what approach I should take to having them sat on 124 of our money.

Many thanks

Yes, it;'s part of their standard T&C (that you will have agreed to when you joined them).
    See para 4.15.3 at https://bulb.co.uk/terms  :
If our calculations show you will have credit in your account at the end of the next month, we can refund the remaining credit from your Bulb account if you ask us to.

I think it might be sensible to build up a bit of credit to cover the Oct price increase and the big bills over winter. If you did manage to take the credit out you'll be looking at a DD increase come October for sure.

One thing you can do is to reduce the monthly payment a fraction each time it will allow you to do so - it may not be by much, but as credit continues to grow, it will also likely allow you to reduce the payment a bit more. I'd urge caution though as you're very likely going to need a LOT of credit stacked up against the winter - so even if you do reach the point where you can get some paid back, I'd strongly advise that you stash that away in a savings account somewhere ready to need to pay it over again in the winter months. I've been putting aside 350 a month for a few months now, and our £150 council tax rebate has also been stashed away in the same acccount.
