Please it's a METER !
As a @40yearoldgraduate you should know the difference between a measuring device and a unit of length.
You should have registered a new account at your new address to start with.
Not doing so may have seriously confused the system.

Edited the spelling 🙄
I have no idea how the system can be confused when I’m just calling to say I’m the owner of this new house - not moving in just yet but please start billing me monthly by DD and continue to supply my current address’
last time I moved I was in The same situation, house needed work before we could move in. Had two accounts with eon at separate addresses for a a few weeks no problem

I'd raise a formal complaint. I'd tell that you're staying there weekends etc while you work on the place, therefore you are living there and need a supply.1
