Can't comment on whether you have had your monies worth or not without a lot more detail...But. Have you had Building Control in to check the lintels/steels yet ?Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.2 -
Yes, but the work had not been carried out correctly so the builder had to rebuild part of the wall. The inspector is coming to check again on Tuesday.

My immediate thoughts are1) the schedule of works is far too vague and2) The payment schedule is equally vagueI assume you has a structural engineer or architect define the works required did they not help you sort out a proper contract with the builder?1

I did use a structural engineer but he didn't sort out a proper contract for me. I didn't even know they could do that?1

The structural engineer only made the calculations for the work to the load bearing wall and the adjustments to the fire place, which did not cost £9k. The £9k was to do all the work, including, plumbing, electrical work and fitting the new kitchen. I had the calculations drawn up, then found a few builders to quote to do the work.Slinky said:canaldumidi said:I assume you has a structural engineer or architect define the works required did they not help you sort out a proper contract with the builder?

What I was querying was why the poster thought a SE/architect would be drawing up a builders' contract for a £9K job.Make £2026 in 2026

Well since the OP didn't draw up a decent contract that could be relied on (and hence the current problem), paying a professional to do so would have been money well spent.Slinky said:What I was querying was why the poster thought a SE/architect would be drawing up a builders' contract for a £9K job.
