Well if your pension is currently fully invested, even though its unlikely to be in 100% equities, then surely other investments would follow the same path.

I used my pension fund a few years ago to provide a pension
    It's no longer invested

Well plenty of us have our pots fully invested (though not necessarily all in equities) and we are not selling out on Monday. Which means that is hard to give any other advice than invest it. If you need to take an income from it then you may invest it differently than if you mean to put it away for many years without touching it.

I understand the logic of staying invested during falls and general volatility.
My main interest is in guidance on taking on an investment now while there seem to be so many rumours and evidence of big falls

There is no difference between me being fully invested both today and Monday night - and you holding cash today and being fully invested on Monday night. Since I will not be selling everything on Monday then ...

My guidance would be investments are not for you, if you have sufficient income from your existing pension, put your cash in a ladder of fixed term savings accounts, relax and enjoy yourself.

    Warren Buffet Rule
    • Rule No. 1: Never lose money. Rule No. 2: Never forget rule No. 1.
    •  If the business does well, the stock eventually follows.
    •  It's far better to buy a wonderful company at a fair price than a fair company at a wonderful price.
Peter Lynch Rule: Know what you own, and know why you own it.
These rules are mainly for investing in individual stock rather than investing in Index Funds, Global trackers.
It is an urban myth that people can not time the market. The people like Hedge Funds, Acute Traders, Contrarian Investors, Billionaires Investors such as Warren Buffet targeting individual stock are doing that all the time. It is not about getting it right, 100% all the time. Getting perfect bottom, the area around the bottom will be enough to outperform the other laternative. It is about a much higher probability of getting it right.
But timing the market is not for everyone especially those who do not watch, read the stock market news regularly, have not got a good fundamental and technical analytical skills. Without skills, it just means blindly guessing, which literally the same with gambling.
