Getting details of chain

Options
Can I ask the EA to share details of all parties in the chain?
As the EAs are habitual liars, it is hard to to fathom whether the chain actually fully formed or not.
I am not willing to spend money unless I know for sure how long the chain is and/or whether fully formed.
Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.

Are you planning on contacting everyone? Would have thought they're not allowed under GDPR / data protection or whatever it falls under Can't say I'd be too happy if someone contacted me. I'd not even want my vendor or buyer to have my details!

I don't think the EA would be allowed? Usually the EAs or solicitors will verify and contact the chain.

I've had an estate agent who rang around the other agents involved in a chain to check it was fully formed; and then did the same when our buyers lost their buyer but found another in a couple of days.

I'm not sure he would have revealed details of each member of the chain to us, but it was far quicker and cheaper than asking our solicitor to ask our buyers' and vendors' solicitors and wait for the question to ripple through the chain.

The same agent was better at trying to get the chain to agree a completion date too.  Not all agents are this proactive but most are motivated to keep the chain together and moving towards paying the agent his commission.  The only info we got from him about the other links in our chain was more of a value-judgement than a breach of privacy; when we asked why the end of the chain who was buying but not selling was the one dictating the completion date he reported "He's an @rsehole".
Ask your agent, you might as well get them to earn their fee.

I’ve always met our buyers and sellers, and it was always useful all round to have that contact. I accept that some people are very private, so I’m just giving my point of view, not being judgmental.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

I think it's one thing to request / be given contact details for the people buying from and selling to you, but quite another to ask for those further up and down the chain - as others have said I would imagine there are data protection issues with estate agents passing on such info (especially bearing in mind that they may not be the same agents that you have a contract with).

You can ask about the chain and if you're a merciless pest they'll inevitably give in and tell you.

Asking for contact details it would be up to those in the chain, I highly doubt you'd get them all. If any.

Me personally I'm happy to deal direct with people, I'd sooner be without delays of a middle man communicating on my behalf.

Others prefer to remain anonymous and let their representatives deal with the chain.

If you know the agents of other people in the chain, that can be helpful.  I had a useless and chaotic selling agent who found a buyer despite all but was hopeless in progressing the sale.  I spoke to the agent of the house I was hoping to buy who was brilliant.  He could update me with some details and I could help him by letting him know about my situation and my buyer.
Someone in the chain needs to push things along sometimes or it drifts and the chain is at risk of falling apart.

If you know which properties are involved in the chain, you can always get owners’ details from Land Registry by paying £3 fee per property.
