Maintaining car insurance no claims discount
I've just gone down to one car and I am the named driver on my wife's vehicle. Assuming I don't replace my old car what is the best way to maintain the NCD that I currently have. Does being a named driver maintain my NCD year on year or should we swap the main named driver each year to keep us both on track? Any ideas? Cheers G

Most insurers will only recognise a NCD for up to two years since it was last used on a policy so yes the normal trick is to switch who the policyholder is each year to keep both alive.1

As much as a pain it is probably the only way to do it as relying on being a named driver means you are reliant on the good will of the insurer to recognise it in the future, which is risky as the likelihood is quite low.1

The NCD is earned by the policyholder, so you would have to switch policyholders every year. The main driver will always remain the person who uses the car the most, regardless of who the policyholder is.
Depending on how long you're intending to be without a car, your age and the subsequent car you buy, you might find with introductory discounts, etc, that the price with no NCD isn't as bad as you might think.1
