if we receive tax credits now but stop receiving them in August will we still get the full £650, will we only get the July payment or will we get nothing?

The guidance looks as though tax credit payments will be in Autumn and winter 22 not August
    Make £2023 in 2023 (#36) £3479.30/£2023

    Make £2024 in 2024...

(Whoops, originally said 'no' because I misread your post *facepalm*.  Sorry.  Official guidance is still the same.)
    • DWP will make the payment in two lump sums – the first from July, the second in the autumn. Payments from HMRC for those on tax credits only will follow shortly after each to avoid duplicate payments.

    Yes:

    Tax credits

You may get a payment of £650 paid in 2 lump sums if you have an award of any of the following:

    • Child Tax Credit
    • Working Tax Credit

You will get one payment from autumn 2022 and a second payment from winter 2022, if you’re entitled.

    Make £2023 in 2023 (#36) £3479.30/£2023

    Make £2024 in 2024...

From the guidance at the moment:

    • Claimants will need to be in receipt of one of these benefits, or have begun a claim which is later successful, as of 25th May 2022 to be eligible for the first of the two instalments. HMRC and DWP will provide further guidance, and the government will set out the eligibility date for the second instalment, in due course.
Whether people will need to be in receipt at the time of the July payment may a slightly grey area?  As for the second, we'll have to wait and see.  If your TC end in August, maybe best for now not to bank on receiving the second payment, at least until we know more.
    Thanks,
this could affect a lot of people who receive child tax credits for a child who is in final year of education then.
If their tax credits end at end of August they potentially lose out on the 2nd half of the payment?

Possibly.  After the parents no longer being in receipt of benefits for the child I guess the expectation is that the child starts to support themselves a bit, by working and/or taking student loans, or applying for UC in their own right.

I need some advice, yesterday, Rishi Sunak announced a package due to Cost Of Living - however, he announced that low income families will get a one off payment of £650 (spread over two payments, first in July and the other in the Autumn) to those on Universal Credit and other benefits. All I want to know, I am on Universal Credit and I am currently not working, I am living on my own in a 1 bed flat and I am a single male, will I be entitled to this £650 payment? or is it just families? if it's just families, then that is not fair at all, how is that even fair? what about us single people who live alone? will we get any help?
Thank you in advance for your advice :)
You will get it, its for everyone who qualifies not just families
you will also get £400 off your Electrity bill
That's great, thank you for replying to my comment Marcia :)

I presume the two lump sums would be equal £325 there’s no reason to suggest otherwise ? Could anyone hazard a guess when in July this might happen I’m just trying to budget some stuff. Might there be a preferred date or most likely will just happen in batches over the month.

There's no way for us to know so there's no point on guessing.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.

I suspect that - as usual with these emergency 'magic vote winners' that governments of all hues come up with when necessary - those who will have to actually distribute the cash (electricity companies, DWP, HMRC, local councils ?) will only have been consulted or forewarned of them at the very highest level (if at all) prior to the announcement, and there will now be an flurry of activity as those at the sharp end of the IT and other systems try to work out how on earth theyre actually going to make it all happen, whilst the corresponding customer service teams deal with a flurry of queries like yours.
As an example - those responsible for updating the Winter Fuel Payment web pages on gov.uk, which usually only happens as winter approaches, obviously weren't asked to update the pages immediately following the announcement, which has led to all the confusion about who is going to be eligible for the Pensioner handout.
I know there are some people who will be desperate for the money ASAP, but I think all you can do at the moment is watch out for further details nearer the time.

Agreed, yet to be announced. But thinking logically, the payment will apply on claims made on or before 25/5/2022, whose first AP would end on 24/6/2022 and first payment would occur 7 days later on 1/7/2022 - so payments in July
So if I had to guess, I'd guess that folks may receive the first payment as part of their July UC payment, on whatever date in July UC payment usually falls. I'd be very surprised if the payment was made separately from the regular monthly payment.
